This demanding yet rewarding paddling trip will take you around Villinki island, almost to open sea within the Helsinki archipelago. Only for seasoned kayakers!

Villinki island is a beautiful nature spot – to the south the open sea, to the north the Eastern Helsinki archipelago. The nature on the island is breath-taking and the steep cliffs are worth another look. This paddling trip is demanding yet definitely worthwhile.

Head directly south from the Paddling Center and follow the smaller island before reaching Villinki. Pick the direction of this route in accordance to the wind direction and be advised the waves will be bigger on the open sea on the southern shore of Villinki. We recommend this route only for experienced kayakers.

You will encounter interesting spots along the way. There’s a cafeteria in the summer Villa Salmela, located on the shore of Villinginsalmi strait. On the southside of Villinki you will find the sheltered Kristallilahti bay. Enter from either side of the Pukkiluoto islet.

It is possible to paddle on the narrow and shallow Kivisalmi strait between Villinki and its neighboring Itä-Villinki island. If the sea level is low, you might have to step out of the kayak and pull the kayak through the strait.

Before the strait you will be able to go ashore in Villinki. Be advised there are public routes on the island, but also many private properties. Itä-Villinki island is military grounds and prohibited from public.

On the way to Villinki you can stop to have a break on one of the many recreational islands in the seacoast.
