Mustasaari - a great outdoor island off the coast of Helsinki!

Mustasaari is located on the Seurasaarenselkä in the middle of Helsinki. Owned by the parishes of Helsinki, Mustasaari welcomes all visitors. Mustasaari has become known as a summer destination for Helsinki residents for over a century. The uniqueness of Mustasaari is underlined by the sheep, who are the island's summer residents.

In summer 2022, Natura Viva will open a kayaking point in Mustasaari for season ticket holders. 15 kayaks and six SUP boats will offer a great opportunity to explore the archipelago off the coast of Helsinki. As a Natura Viva season pass holder, you can book your own equipment and go paddling on your own.

Mustasaari's sheltered and beautiful beach is located on the west side of the island, in the bay of the neighbouring Hevossaari. There are a few buildings on the island and in summer you will also find grazing sheep. You can reach Horses Island by a small bridge, and in the middle of the tiny island is a magnificent colonial boulder dating back to the Ice Age.

The rental sauna in Mustasaari is heated for both public and private use. The sauna can accommodate up to 15 people.

By ferry to Mustasaari

Arriving in Mustasaari is an adventure in itself. The JT-Line Walhalla ferry runs daily from Taivallahti beach in Töölö. The ferry beach is at the end of Eteläisen Hesperiankatu at the Taivallahti boat club, and the most convenient way to get there is by public transport. By tram you can get halfway along Eteläisen Hesperiankatu to the Runeberginkatu stop. On foot, the distance from Helsinki city centre is about one and a half kilometres. The nearest bus stop is on Hietakannaksentie, right next to the departure point of the Walhalla ferry. Bus number 24 runs here from Kampi.

There is also a service bridge to Mustasaari from Kaskisaari, but it is not open to the public.
