Kattilajärvi Campifire site

Lake swimming near Helsinki? Head on to Nuuksio and visit the Kattilajärvi campfire site and a public swimming area.

The Kattilajärvi campfire site is located in the southern tip of lake Kattilajärvi, a relatively large forest lake in the Nuuksio national park. Lake Kattilajärvi has clear waters, and there’s a public swimming area in connection to the campfire site, upheld by the City of Espoo. There’s a lovely sandy beach and a pier, both surely inviting for a dip in the lake.

Kattilajärvi together with lake Urja and lake Vääräjärvi comprise a three lakes area, characterized by their clear waters, steep rocky lakeshores and pathways criss-crossing around and between the lakes. This area is a wonderful destination for an overnight hiking trip, as there are campfire and camping sites on every lakeshore, the terrain is easily walkable and the scenery breath-takingly beautiful.

The hike to Kattilajärvi first follows the Haukkalampi-Haltia-trail. After some kilometers the trail deviates to unmarked pathways towards lake Urja. Altogether the hiking trail is about nine kilometers. You will need a map and compass to complete the route. Remember to avoid private properties and summer cottage premises along the route.

Adjacent to the campfire site and the swimming area there are also a cooking shelter and a well. You can also go camping here, visit the Kattilajärvi camping area.

Metsähallitus takes care of the campfire sights in Nuuksio National park and they make sure that the sights have firewood ready for use. It is a good idea to pack a knife and proper equipment to make fire with you.
